Pros and cons of UpCode app for iPhone and iPad
UpCode app good for
This app does exactly what its supposed to and runs like a charm.
Dunno if others have features, but this app took a picture of a QR code off my monitor and quickly launched a web page on my phone.
Good app!
Scans qr codes quickly and properly. But cant launch custom url, if it is not websites. For example, url: tel://...
Thought Id post that this works ... its just a shame that I dont come across many codes to take advantage of this app.
If you wanna turn your phone into a Swiss army watch for everything, download now! Must have for all as barcodes technology comes to the US
Installed it, took a pretty blurry picture of a QR code and it took me straight to the URL in Safari. Neoreader couldnt even decypher a much bigger version of that same QR.
So it works as advertised, even with pretty bad pictures. Im giving it 4 stars because it got way too many 1 star reviews :-)
However, when I tried to use a "business-card QR", it simply exited without launching anything.
For future versions, Im hoping for:
- Show the info in the QR before acting on it
- Import business cards
- Show your own info as a QR?
Some bad moments
With this record it doesnt even matter that it couldnt read the two pics of barcode that did get through.
Terrible app! No matter how many barcodes I scanned or how clear and straight on the photo was, this app failed to decode them every time. Ill keep looking until I find one that works, because this one sure doesnt.
Works best if you dont hold the camera too close to the barcode. Frame the code in the autofocus box that pops up on the camera. Interface needs work. Crashes occasionally. Opens websites automatically, however it does not automatically call numbers or send text messages.
I tried scanning a couple of QR codes but it simply refused to work. Each time I tried, it just kept opening to a webpage in my browser, which wasnt even in English (looked to be Finnish), so I had to resort to downloading another app to successfully scan the QR codes. Will be deleting this app after my review is posted.
Just crashes immediately after clicking on "Use photo" for me. Even the UI looked screwed up. Im amazed this made it on the app store. Im still waiting for an ideal 2D barcode scanner for the iPhone, and this (at least 1.0) is certainly not it.
I hope that v.1 gets updated. The iPhone doesnt focus on near objects and then the app crashes.
